16 WINES, 8 CHEESES, 1 NIGHT

Holy hangover, Batman! That's really all that can be said about the wine and cheese class I attended with some girlfriends last night. It was really more of a wine-drinking event than a wine tasting class, not that I'm complaining! 


We sampled 8 pairs of wines, and each set was served with a different cheese. The instructor provided information about the grapes, region, style and production of each wine, although I'm pretty sure that about halfway through everyone was so tipsy we stopped listening!


My favorite cheese of the evening was this Pecorino Tartufo Riserva. It had black summer truffles mixed into the Tuscan sheep's milk. Absolutely divine!

1. SPARKLING

2. MINERALS

    WINES: Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc 2013; Chateau Dereszla Tokajji Dry 2012
    CHEESE: Salva Cremasco

3. AROMATIC

    WINES: Durin Vermentino 2012; Mercer Riesling 2012 
    CHEESE: Scharfe Maxx

4. ROSÉ

    WINES: Chateau Montaud Cotes-de-Provence 2012; Les Lauzeraies Tavel 2012
    CHEESE: San Tumas

5. FOOD FRIENDLY ITALIAN REDS

    WINES: Arnad Montjovet La Kiuva 2012; Occhipinti Alea Viva 2011
    CHEESE: Pecorino Tartufo Riserva

6. DISTINCT FRENCH REDS

    WINES: Charles Joguet Chinon 'Cuvée Terroir' 2011; Clermont-Tonnere Cairanne 
    'Vieilles Vignes' 2010
    CHEESE: Montgomery's Cheddar

7. SPAIN

    WINES: Rio Madre Graciano 2012; Villacreces Crianza 'Pruno' 2009
    CHEESE: Mahon Curado

8. BLIND TASTING: GRAPE?

    WINES: Don't remember and forgot to write them down...oops!
    CHEESE: Roomano
